Engagement off Lough Swilly Aims for Five Prize Ships

British squadron under Sir J Warren pursued a Brest fleet on October 12 in bad weather off Lough Swilly. Four French ships struck colors before nightfall and three frigates escaped. The Hoche 84 guns and several frigates were captured or driven off with troops and stores aboard. Captain Grce Congress of Ethalion praised for keeping the fleet in sight. The action yielded five prizes and delayed French landings in Ireland.
