Six seamen rescued after wreck near Brest

Six sailors from the Fares frigate, including Zoht Garton Win and Charles Lamb, were left drifting after the ship's damage near Brest. They were picked up by the Danish brig Speculator sixty leagues from the start, then brought to Lifbyn and landed near Yalm River before proceeding by land. They had little provisions and no compass, and French soldiers had seized the Fajon before abandonment.

At Taunton Quarter Sessions two men, a collier and a malefactor, were found guilty of assaults with intent to rape Mrs. Faylor of Bampton and Mrs. Pope of Wells and sentenced to solitary confinement for three and one month respectively. Sittings in Middlesex and London before Lord Kesvon after Michaelmas Term 1798.
