Reports from Paris describe depatchs about the Emperor's answers to requisitions, Vienna commotions, and the fate of exiled deputies. News from Aix, Marseilles, and Vendôme recount uprisings, arrests, and reinforcements as the Directory tightens control and prepares for continued continental war.
From Paris dated Sept 7 reports the central administrations of Jem mapes Scheldt and Sambre and Meuse to share the same fate as the municipality of the town. Troops depart for Antwerp where a large garrison will be formed and a siege state is said to be established. Clergy and others arrested amid municipal officer murder inquiries. In Milan on Sept 30 preparations for war and an 80,000 strong allied army are described with Bonaparte directing strong defenses and artillery.
In Dublin on October 10 Lord Lerrarm sailed for England aboard the Dorset. Michael Sheridan formerly kept a public house in Eustace Street was jailed by Major Sirz in the New Prison on treason charges. In Wexford six suspected rebels were captured and jailed, led by a man named Stephens who allegedly ran an armed faction and issued a treason oath. Last week six more were apprehended in Wexford and committed to goal.
London markets show price advances for hops and several goods while tea and cotton stall. Mayors across the kingdom feature booksellers and printers among elected officials. A Norfolk cottage burned, children scorched, and Leicester sheep fair saw prices fall as cattle and animals remained plentiful.
