Public Office Hatton Garden Hearing Reveals Marital Trios
A hearing at Hatton Garden examined a case of two husbands contending for a woman formally married to both. The woman, described as ignorant and volatile, lived with each man at times, provoking a disturbance in Clerkenwell as a mob gathered. Thomas Hodge, the latter husband, is said to have torn at her clothes. she scratched him in return. William Dawson, the first husband, was favored by the woman for his money and affection, while she expressed utter aversion to Hodge, preferring seven years’ discipline at Bridewell over returning to him. Hodge, younger and equally ignorant, yielded the prize to Dawson amid the others’ exultation.
