Prize Lottery Shares Sold by Shergold and Co in London

A late 18th century notice details Shergold and Co. Royal Union Bank, Lampard Street, London selling legal stamped shares for English and Irish lottery prizes. It lists multiple subscribers including Mr Barnes of Heytesbury and others, with prizes of 20,000 and 29,000 pounds cited, and notes about Half Share Receipts and the distribution of capital benefits among named individuals across Wiltshire, Bath, Norton, Leicester Fields, and London addresses. It promotes their plan, receipts, and the exchange of blanks for further chances, plus reference to other firms Jenkins and Co. and Jenkins receipts.

Wenham Lottery and National Debt Reduction Proposal

Stock values and ministerial plans on national debt

A correspondent argues the four per cent stock is undervalued as a near term reduction in interest is anticipated by Mr. Pitt. He cites capital values and yields for four and five per cent stocks, insisting the five per cent should be reduced before 25,000,000 remains discharged. The letter urges public disclosure of terms and warns against stock jobbing while asserting calculated support for a reduction by end of 1800.
