Trial of the Rev. Fitzsimmons in Edinburgh
The trial of Rev Willam Fitzsimmons at Edinburgh heard that he housed French prisoners of war and aided their escape to France. Witnesses described escapes from Edinburgh Castle, letters found and read in court, and the Crown urged a serious misdeed though not treason. The jury found the libel proven and the court sentenced Fitzsimmons to three months imprisonment.
