Loriks Explains Program To Boost Turkey Prices
Emil Loriks, secretary of the Great Northern Turkey Cooperatives, Inc., outlined a plan to raise South Dakota turkey prices by five cents a pound through branding and grading. The program aims to boost regional producer revenue by about 86 dollars per year per state, with grading schools to be conducted under State College auspices. Mondale will be the brand for turkeys from the Dakotas and Montana, and the effort targets stopping careless grading to lift prices. The Great Northern Turkish Cooperatives markets turkeys in Chicago and New York, shipping 75 to 100 cars from South Dakota this year across several states including North Dakota, Minnesota, Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, Nebraska, and Iowa.
