Army Short 300 Flying Officers Policy Change
Washington Sept. 19 A shortage of nearly 200 flying officers in the army air corps under a five year expansion program led the war department to require graduates of the advanced flying school at Kelly Field Texas to remain in service for two years. The change reverses prior practice allowing graduates to leave for civilian aviation and aims to complete the program which calls for 1850 regular and 50 reserve officers by June 30 1952. The War Department says it does not seek to compete with civilian flying schools and emphasizes training efficiency.
