Sakaka Wea memorial dedication set for Sept 27
Mobridge prepares for a historical parade and pageant to dedicate the Sakaka-Wea monument four miles west of town on the Missouri River. The program includes a 16 float parade led by the Mobridge high school band and a pageant on Sakaka-Wea. Mobridge Wakpala students participate under Ruth Allen. The 1250 monument was funded by the Hickory Stick club and area schools. J A G Smith of McIntosh will preside with F C Giffen, state superintendent, attending.

Governor Bulow will give addresses. D W Davis of Timber Lake presents a memorial. Hickory Stick clubs lunch noon then Mobridge versus Timber Lake high school football in the afternoon. A Sakeka Wea memorial banquet is planned with 250 to 300 guests. Doane Robinson and Lewis F Crawford will speak. Historical material will be placed behind the bronze tablet. Schools and organizations involved are compiling activity records for display during the dedication.

Yankton Building Boom Pushes Local Construction Past Million
Yankton sees more than a million dollars invested in new buildings and improvements this year with projects already done or underway. Major items include Yankton College’s Worches J Hall of Science at 315000, Sacred Heart hospital wing 259000, a 125000 waterworks plant, a 35000 bank, 50000 store, two creameries around 20000, plus a modern poultry dressing plant, tire shops, an oil station, café, several store fronts and remodeling. A total nearing 1.5 million is projected by year end amid heightened activity in Yankton’s construction scene.
