Attendance at the South Dakota State Fair ran about half of last year’s record, with noon counts around 10000, projecting a total crowd near 15000 to 16000. Marie Novotny won grand champion baby beef at auction for 41 cents a pound, bought by the Tabor Chamber of Commerce, and the event featured a barbecue to celebrate.

Robert Quale, 11 year old son of Mr and Mrs George Quales of $1¢ Frank Ave, was injured in an automobile accident July 17. He left the hospital two weeks ago after five weeks confinement but returned for surgery last Saturday. The boy can move about on crutches but must stay out of school for a few days. Bank Debits Stay Steady In Huron District

The Reserve Bank monthly report shows Huron area debits totaling 4 573 000 in August, down from 5 092 008 in July and 4 973 000 a year earlier. Farm income across the district including North and South Dakota Minnesota Montana and parts of Wisconsin and Michigan fell 61 percent from August last year, due mainly to weak wheat and rye marketings though potato income was higher.

John E Holleman State Pioneer Dies in Springfield

John E Holleman 67 pioneer farmer and business man died suddenly at his home from heart trouble. A former state senator from Bon Homme county in 1888 and 1913 House member, he served on the city council at his death. He came to Springfield from Michigan in 1884 and later ran a garage with his son. Surviving are the widow, son and two daughters. Funeral services set for Saturday afternoon.
