JAPAN Sept 15 Harold L Bromley told a Rengo news man he would resume plans to cross the Pacific to Tacoma by air despite a gas line break and spray flooding that forced him to turn back after flying hundreds of miles eastward toward Taroma. The City of Tacoma plowed into a beach at Shitsukazi but escaped serious damage. Bromley’s eyes were treated and no permanent injury found.
Los Angeles reports Ruth B. Weimer arrested for the murder of her sister Mrs Mabel Agnes Steele, 41. Steele admitted being shot to cure a broken heart caused by an estranged husband. Police say Steele had attempted suicide multiple times, was released from a psychiatric ward, and yesterday her aunt warned her not to cry. Five bullets struck Steele.
A man identifying himself as Lyle Hammett of Sioux City was held for investigation in a $3000 Merriam Nebraska bank robbery. Spencer police liaise with bank officials and state police in Lincoln and Ded Maines over possible further Iowa and Nebraska robberies. Hammett faced concealed weapons charges while two alleged accomplices fled.
