Wheat Crop Prospects Dim for 1930, Says Extension
The July 1 worm stocks imply a smaller 1929 crop and reduced world supplies for 1930 31. European output drops offset by stronger All Gentine and Australia yields, with US feed grain shortfalls boosting demand. Carryover in the US near 273 million bushels, up slightly, while August projections forecast 15 million bushels more than last year. To normalize carryover, exports and feeding must reach about 26 million bushels, otherwise a large deficit in the corn crop and subdued prices may persist.

Gasoline Tax Money Needed to Match State Highway Aid
Pierre, Sept 12, 2012 South Dakota highway engineer J Maughs Brown says the state can match its former federal aid for highway construction with state funds, but the extra $2 million in federal aid may not be usable without more revenue. He notes the state’s four cent gasoline tax revenue could cover almost all matching funds, but the next legislature must allow the use of the full four cents as one cent now funds the sinking fund to retire old highway bonds. Brown explains federal aid requires a project by project agreement, with the federal government reimbursing about 55 percent after completion. Since 2018, roughly $14.34 million was made available, with about $15.93 million paid on completed projects, while much remains tied in agreements awaiting finalization. He adds accelerating highway work depends on securing state funds, and federal funds do not revert for three years.
