Hold Services For Former B. C. Mayor
Rapid City hosted funeral services for John L. Burke 83 longtime Rapid City resident and former mayor. Burke served as U S land office receiver 1907 1908 and 1918 1920 and represented Fall River County in the state legislature twice. He died Tuesday and is survived by his wife and three children A Milton Burke Allan L Burke and Mrs. C J Whitlow. Born December 12 1856 in Millville Ohio he homesteaded near Hot Springs in 1885 and rose to state legislator and Rapid City leader.

Yoiden of Sioux Falls earned nearly 375 as his 960 pound grand champion baby beef sold for 39 cents a pound to Morrells of Sioux Falls. The reserve champion steer owned by Leadie Seemann of Marshall County weighing 1067 pounds sold to Armour & Company of Huron at 24 cents a pound. Lyle Johnson of De Smet received 35 cents a pound for his grand champion fat lamb bought by Armour. Swift & Company of Watertown bought the reserve champion dam owned by Howard Fox for 20 cents. Armour & Company also acquired the champion fat barrow owned by Donald Fox of Watertown at 39 cents. The reserve champion owned by Robert Cox of Watertown sold to Swift’s for 21 cents a pound.

France grants Japan limited right to land troops in Indochina
Reports from Hanoi say the Vichy government will allow Japan limited landings of troops and supplies at Haiphong to move them via the Indochina railway toward the Chinese border, subject to talks with Japan's Nishihara. Japan had pressed for a full landing, and Indo-China’s governor-general Decoux would meet only after assurances the army would not strike. Regular shipping from Hongkong to IndoChina, suspended during the crisis, is to resume.
