Thugs Loot Banks At Flandreau And Whitewood Today

South Dakota saw two bank holdups with kidnapings early today as Flandreau and Whitewood were hit. Bandits stole about $2,000 from the First National Bank of Flandreau and $2,500 from Whitewood Banking Company after kidnapping the cashier and forcing him to open the vault. The Whitewood raid left the cashier unharmed but his family held briefly. A girl clerk at Flandreau was also kidnapped and a customer slugged in a separate Flandreau incident. Police spread guards across highways and followed leads toward Tilford as investigations continue.

Miss Terpenning of 68 Uli noly avenue SW enjoyed the eclipse but woke to a theft. A wrist watch a ring and about four dollars were stolen from a dining room table while she and others viewed the heavens. Police were investigating the break in.

MacNider Quits Minister Post

President Hoover accepted the resignation of Harford MacNider as American minister to Canada and praised his role in the St. Lawrence waterway treaty. MacNider said he left to attend to private affairs. Hoover called his service notable and lasting.

Sioux Falls to Host 1933 Knights Templar Meet

Mitchell D Sept 1 Sioux Falls will host the 1933 conclave of the Knights Templar. Pierre extended an invitation. Watertown commandery 7 received the cup for the winning drill and Capitol City commandery 21 of Pierre won the Stover trophy at annual inspection. Commanderies from Aberdeen, Huron, and Redfield vied for the Warne cup. W B Warner and Leroy Baird spoke at the business session along with John Z Dysert.

South Dakota Seeks 3 Million for Relief Refits

Pierre reporters note South Dakota's state relief committee will seek 3 million dollars from the federal relief fund plus 50 thousand immediately and up to 2 658 000 for possible needs. A survey will assess county and local requirements for winter relief amid drought and grasshopper damage. Wage scales set common labor at 38 to 40 cents per hour and for foam graveling work at 19 cents. plan to spread work over winter.

Milo Reno Calls Off Strike Until After Governors Meet

Des Moines reports the farmers' war for higher produce prices paused for nine days until after the midwestern governors conference in Sioux City on Sept. 9. Milo Reno, head of the Farmers Holiday Association, said markets would stay open to avoid violence, while clashes continued in Nebraska and Iowa as pickets attempted to block trucks and blockades.

Beef cattle top price set at South St. Paul market

Robert J. Nelson of Tracy Minn sold two carloads of choice steers for 950 dollars per hundredweight to Swift and Co. The 18 head load averaged 1403 pounds and the 20 head load 1236 pounds. Shipments were through the Central Cooperative Association. Nelson bought cattle last October at 5 dollars per hundredweight for feed. Estimated gross profit exceeds 3000 dollars with net near 2000 dollars.
