Draft officials race to secure master draft list
Selective service officials pressed to obtain copies of the conscription master list of numbers en route to state draft headquarters as the first year quota of 800 000 is in view and uniformed drafts are expected.
First draft lottery details drill down to local boards
Draft Director Clarence A. Dykstra said master lists should reach local boards by today with copies due back by next Monday. Local boards will distribute questionnaires to identify class 1A men to fit army needs, while those not in the first 1,500 drawn may have little chance of receiving questionnaires or service. Dykstra warned lawsuits could follow, noting Detroit’s bid to challenge the drawing for missing numbers in the glass bowl.
