Allied air pounding sinks 60 Japanese planes at Rasbaul base

Mitchell bombers flew at mast height through poor weather to strike Rasbaul in New Guinea region. They destroyed 60 planes and damaged warships including a destroyer and gunboat. Partisans halt German landing on Adriatic coast

Yugoslav Partisans claim to have smashed a German seaborne attempt to land troops on the Dalmatian coast with main targets the Peljesac Peninsula and the islands of Hvar and Mljet. Siouix Falls, Oct 20. A mother of five children under 18 months probation after pleading guilty in federal court to mail fraud. Mrs Nells Estella Steward of Estelline, a former school teacher, used 43 aliases and enlisted pupils to obtain over $1,000 in merchandise or cash from mail order houses over three years by sending canceled checks and claiming partial fulfillment.
