USD President Asked to Join National Flag Association Council
Herman G. James president of the University of South Dakota has been asked to join the National Council of 16 of the United States Flag Association which will sponsor a national anti crime conference in Washington on October 13 and 4. The association invites governors attorney generals commissioners of education adjutants general of all states prosecuting attorneys and leaders from civic religious and educational groups to attend. The conference aims to develop methods to combat crime and raise public awareness of the crime crisis and its economic impact. Franklin D Roosevelt is honorary president general and Patrick Hurley is council chairman.

Six Million Pigs Bought In Federal Hog Program Ends
The emergency hog marketing program purchased and slaughtered about six million pigs weighing 25 to 100 pounds and 300000 sows, ending Friday Sept 2. About $30 million or 30 percent of costs paid to farmers for live hogs. Estimates show costs of curing meat near $4 million and gives 100 million pounds of cured pork, equivalent to 50 trainloads.
