Bottom Really Drops Out Of Oil Business

PHAUMONT TEXAS det La-P hosted hundreds of thousands of dollars in oil land loss today as ten acres sank into a muddy lake in the Sour Lake oil field twenty five miles west of town. The surface fell hourly with crumbling pit sides and 13 wells shut down. A large area was swallowed, with derricks, storage tanks, a boiler and six settling tanks engulfed. Oil companies studied the widening lake while geologists offered theories, noting a buried oil pool drainage forming a cavity under the crust.

Washington October 19. South Dakota corn crop stands at 68 percent of normal with an indicated production of 103,924,090 bushels. Durum wheat 12,194,000 bushels and spring wheat 17,993,000 bushels. No Change Seen In Woman's Condition

The condition of Mrs. W. H. La Rue paralyzed from the chest down by an automobile accident west of Iroquois Sunday remained about the same today, the attending physician announced. Mrs Charles Magruder who suffered a broken fish in the trash was resting comfortably at the hospital.

Alchemist Claims to Turn Lead Into Gold in Germany

In Bucnigh Germany Oct 10 a plumber and self styled alchemist Tarsent claimed to extract a tenth of a gram of gold from 167 centsigrams of lead. Officials watched closely but doubt he produced real gold. He has a history of fraud including a claim to have defrauded General Ludendorff of 100000. Continuous testing showed variable outputs from three to 30 grams per test with a nominal value around 4700 per kilogram, prompting tighter future controls.
