Mooney Lawyers Challenge Dead Witness Testimony
San Francisco lawyers for Tom Mooney sought to undermine the testimony of a deceased witness from the 1916 preparedness day bombing case. They pleaded with the Supreme Court to take jurisdiction and continue the habeas corpus hearing until the tribunal rules. The witness Frank Oxman, an Oregon rancher long dead, was said to have seen events at the scene. H Tharp, a former private detective, testified among others. A new habeas corpus action was asked, arguing the San Francisco proceedings deny proper relief. A Forty Year Club was announced for July 1936 by Miami residents who lived there in 1896-7.
