Canadian Farm Tour Finds Large Scale Can Cut Costs
Brookings reports that operators in Canada and Montana believe small grains can be produced cheaply enough by large scale farming methods to meet current prices with a margin for profit. The week-long tour covered 1,100 miles with 12 farms visited and included a look at seed pools, wheat pools, and Swift Current experiments. Machinery included a 60 hp tractor with two 20 ft combines and a six man team with a 60 ft width, with participants from Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, Montana, Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba. The federal farm board and Dominion government supported the trip.

Alfalfa Seed Crop Saves Fall River County Farmers
Fall River County farmers rely on alfalfa seed as other crops yield poorly. County agent Sam L. Sloan reports about 360000 in alfalfa seed value this year, with 90 registered fields and potential for more bottom land to become seed production. Seed from registered fields commands about 6 more per unit, boosting county income by over 10000 yearly. Seed is a life saver when other crops falter and market conditions vary.

Stevens Amazed By Changes In Huron
Frank E. Stevens once led Headle County National Bank in Huron. At 75, living in Sycamore, he viewed a Huron booster booklet and contrasted today with 50 years ago when the area near the east bridge slept on grass. He recalled Lincoln’s volunteers in the Black Hawk era and discussed Illinois history.
