Fire Prevention Week urged by South Dakota official
Pierre Oct 3 Observance of the week of October 6 to 12 as Fire Prevention Week was urged by D D Lewis state fire marshal. The campaign stresses stopping, looking, and listening to preventable fires and aims to reduce fire losses through citizen vigilance. The fire marshal’s department will run a state wide program in schools and communities with posters, booklets and a playlet, while local chiefs place window cards and civic groups hold observances. Also noted is a 10 percent reduction in brick mercantile insurance rates east of the Missouri due to improved loss ratios. A poultry specialist with the extension service, N D Minatt, appointed Oct 1, will relocate here with his family.
