Springs College Names Officers Across Divisions

Wessington Springs junior college and associated high school groups have elected officers for the year. Sophomore officers include President Mark Stillman and Vice President Lawrence Godfrey. freshmen leaders Kenneth Starkey and Dean Kellum, with advisement by faculty. Junior and senior class officers cover multiple roles, with several faculty advisers named.

Alligator Sighted in Harding County Creek

Buffalo reports E E Junek, county commissioner, saw a three foot alligator in a Redig creek last week. Efforts will be made to capture the reptile before waters freeze and kill it. A previously reported loss of two alligators from Last Soumer may be connected.

Enrolments Fall at Northern Normal College

Aberdeen October 1 Enrollment figures from the Northern State Teachers College registrar show a slight decline from last year with about 700 students enrolled. Over 350 are freshmen. the only rise is a 10 percent margin in upper senior classes. Twenty two high school preparatory students and 29 special students add to the roll while cropping failures and drought keep farmers from paying out.

Prohibition Tour By Former State Dry Pope

Former state prohibition advocate Sosa Mitchell of the anti liquor league will visit the state this week to promote prohibition. His schedule includes talks at the Baptist convention in Brookings Presbyterian church synod in Madigan and the Methodist conference in Huron. He will also speak at Howard evening and at the Mitchell Lap church morning and at Redfield that evening.

John Harte Hawk a Sioux Indian north of Winner thr eshed 18 acres of Cossack alfalfa yielding 171 hus- sels. He declined a $2500 offer for the seed and crop from the machine, saying he holds for a better price. The harvest includes first cutting hay and a strong fall crop for pasturage.

South Dakota Reports Rusty Barberry Finders and Fewer Workers

Nearly 33 000 rust producing barberries have been found in South Dakota since eradication began. State leader St C Bulger said over 700 were found this year and the force is reduced to four men working out of Platte to finish the survey this fall. Earlier, a crew of 19 men worked in Charles Mix Douglas Bon Homme Grant and Turner counties. 15 returned to school. Another planting was found near the Missouri river, the tenth property in Charles Mix county this year. No bushes found along the river but surveys continue.

Mrs. c H Weiting of Tulare was elected county chairman of extension work at a courthouse meeting in Redfield. Mrs. A T Kitterman of Daland was named vice chairman and Mrs C E Statenroth of Redfield secretary and treasurer. The executive board includes C E Thompson Redfield, Faye Littkow Mellette, Elsie M Smith Doland, Harry Dixon Hitchcock, Hazel Roberts Conde, and Susan B Wilder Brookings.

Training School in Redfield Opens Summer Activities

Women answered early in the summer. The first training school in Redfield will take place Thursday at 10 a.m. A business meeting is set for 1 p.m. and at 3 p.m. an exhibit of Christmas gifts will be shown. Sarva Dewing extension agent will conduct the training school.

Yankton College Enrolls 312 Students From Nine States

Yankton college reports an all time high enrollment of 312 students this year from nine states plus Alaska. South Dakota provides 263 students, Nebraska 31, Missouri seven, Minnesota three, Iowa three, with Washington Oregon Kansas Wisconsin and Alaska each supplying one student. In Manchester, Gig Revel was elected president of the Young Citizens league at its first meeting, with Audrey Decker as vice president Evelyn Revel as secretary and Violet Stanfield as treasurer.
