Predators rise as upland game favoring years marked

South Dakota Game and Fish Commission reports show predator bounty increases in counties with high pheasant and partridge counts. In one season 9,813 coyotes were paid bounties, 300 more than the prior summer, with additional traps paid by the federal service. The report notes predators thriving where upland game birds thrive and includes field anecdotes on large pheasants, velvet antlers, and wildlife seesaw effects across counties.
