At Camp Forrest Tennessee on November 28 soldiers from Battery C 19th Field Artillery signed a telegram to John L Lewis president of the United Mine Workers promising to dig coal at present pay and donate the difference to the U S treasury for national defense if troops would mine. The message was signed by 102 battery members including sergeants and corporals. Lewis earlier said troops would not shoot miners nor mine coal.

Long Illness Fatal To Veteran Pastor in Sioux Falls

Rev. Thomas Henry Trevithick, 81, retired Methodist minister, died after a long illness in Sioux Falls. Funeral rites will be Monday at Dell Rapids with Uhyrig. He served in several towns in the state including Hertford, Salem, Platte, Garden City, Iroquois and Lake Preston.
