Fire Department Answers Three Silent Calls

Huron fire department responded to three silent calls yesterday. The first at the new Deera and Weber building on First and Dako around 4:20 p.m. involved roof tar being applied and required chemical extinguishing. The second call came from a pole about a half mile south of the Fair Grounds. The third involved Morris Howe of Axelrod Furniture near 433 Tenth Street Southwest at about 9 p.m. starting his car as it caught fire. fire was extinguished without serious damage.

Open Land in South Dakota for World War Veterans

About 12 020 acres in Pennington and Jackson counties South Dakota will open to entry by ex service men under homestead laws for 20 days starting January 4 1920 Applications may be filed at the district office in Pierre South Dakota during the 20 day period. After April 6 any lands entered will be subject to appropriation by the general public.

Nome Alaska missing Arctic pilot prompts search

In Nome Alaska on November 22 four parties hunted near North Alberts for Carl Ben Wielson an arctic pilot overdue since November 3. Dorbanct and Elelson ferrying clients and fur from the Nanuk faced ice and storms near North Cape and Teller, with Elelson sighted by ship crews and a rescue team dispatched, while Dorbanct returned to Teller. Three more search parties were sent from the Stavropol's icebound vessel to locate Elelson and the missing men and to reunite with the Nauuk team.
