School Patrols Urged as Uniform Plan Adopted
PIERRE Nov 1 The division of motive patrol of the department of justice and public safety recommends adoption of a uniform school patrol plan modeled after guidelines from AAA NSC and National Congress of Parents and Teachers. Patrols, backed by police supervision and sponsoring bodies, wear white belts badges and eight foot signal posts. They do not direct traffic but aid pedestrians at crossings. South Dakota schools with American Legion sponsorship have adopted the plan. Patrol leaders claim patrols greatly reduce accidents and should be used in all elementary schools.
