Anton Le Benesh, a Vilas blacksmith, received a 12 year term in the state penitentiary after pleading guilty to first degree manslaughter in the Halloween night death of Milo Wilson, 14, of Howard. The shooting occurred during a prank behind the Benesh shop. Benesh claimed the aim was to shoot into a cave, not at the youths.

Earnest Tovey of Huron reports the killing of a cow elk while hunting in the Black Hills. He returned Wednesday after a brief stay in the Hills. The elk was located on a high hill between Hot Springs and Pringle, within about 400 yards, and shot by Tovey. The animal weighed roughly 425 pounds.
