Memorial Day plans center on a 9 a.m. parade from the school to the Huron theatre and a 10:30 a.m. graveside service at Riverside Cemetery. The program includes addresses by Rev. J. H. Black, music by the municipal band, and a ball game between Huron Vicaclers and Kari Keens. The railways will run only passenger trains. theatres close in afternoon. Seven Civil War veterans will take part in ceremonies with local organizations, Scouts, and veterans groups delivering the roll call and general orders.

Theft Of Chickens Sends Three To Penitentiary
Sioux Falls May 26 Theft of five chickens valued at 2.50 led to prison sentences for three Sioux City youths. Ralph Farren received two years in the penitentiary, Paul John one year, and Sylvester John one year in jail. Officer reports place the theft on a farm near Jefferson.

Schools Big Aid In World Unrest
In the Huron college auditorium a crowd of 2060 heard the Huron high school class of 1932 receive diplomas. The 132 seniors and one more to graduate last fall completed 12 years of public schooling, the largest class in the school’s history. Commencement closed the 1931-32 year. Classes resume September 6 after Labor Day, with Fair Week half days on Wednesday through Friday. Dr. Herman G. James of the University of South Dakota called public schools the nation’s most important weapon against economic unrest, noting world dictatorships and autocracies in place of democracy across many countries and stressing vigilance for democracy at home.

Quarrel Ends In Death Of Indian At Dupree Farm
In Dupree area a neighborly dispute over payment of a debt led James Hersey to shoot Nellie Brings Plenty, an Indian woman, with a 410 shotgun during a quarrel over horses placed in a pasture. She died hours later from loss of blood. Hersey is jailed awaiting coroner’s inquest findings.

ELK POINT S D May 28 3 Sheriff C N Slocum announces he received word from West Palm Beach Fla that the bank robber believed to have robbed Alcester of 500 on Jan 27 last is under arrest there on a highway robbery charge. The suspect Peter Rogers alias Peter Stienstra alias Rogers Stienstra has been sought since the shelter holdup. Rogers disappeared from his home the evening of the robbery after buying an automobile for which he is sued a worthless check. Sheriff Slocum said he has pleaded guilty to the highway robbery charge and it is unclear if he will be sent back to South Dakota to face the bank robbery charge.

Governor to attend funeral in Watertown this Monday
After visiting Roslyn this weekend Governor Green will attend the funeral of Mrs. N B Knight in Watertown Monday. Mr Knight, a state rural credits field man and personal friend of the governor, died Wednesday.
Ranger Will Relieve S. S. Langley in 1934
Washington reports the aircraft carrier Langley, commissioned as Jupiter in 1913 and later converted, will be relieved by the Newport News shipbuilding project around May 1, 1932. Upon completion the ship will displace 13,500 tons, raising U.S. naval aircraft tonnage to 91,000 tons, still 43,700 tons under the treaty limit.

Mild Frost Reaches Aired Areas With Little Damage

BROCKINGS May 2 4 The meeting here last night in the North Central conference athletic directors officials awarded the basketball championship to North Dakota State. The meeting also voted to limit football officials to ten per game and to one in basketball. The annual meeting will be held in Chicago in 1933.
