SAN FRANCISCO May 27 The Golden Gate bridge opened today with a claimed length of 360 miles of steel 80 000 strands of wire fence along a 1600 mile highway border from Canada to Mexico The suspension towers rise 746 feet and the vertical clearance ranges from 206 to 220 feet The feature outlines awe at the bridge and its scale.
Under secretary M L Wilson outlined a relief plan to mobilize every Agriculture Department resource for drought devastated western states. Secretary Wallace had earlier disclosed the appointment of Wilson to head an informal committee to study the drought problem as a basis for a planned relief program contingent on funds from Congress.
Detroit May Maha The United Automobile Workers of America says it will prosecute those responsible for the beating of two union organizers and others at the gates of Ford Motor Company's Rouge Plant in Dearborn. The unions attorney filed charges with the National Labor Relations Board as reports reached Gov. Murphy and Sen. La Follette's committee. Proposals for an investigation and possible censure of Ford circulated in Michigan. The plant reportedly operated without interruption.
