Convict Hangs Self in South Dakota Penitentiary
SIOUX FALLS, May 22. William Simms of Yankton county, serving a three year term for grand larceny, committed suicide in his cell today. He began his sentence in 1928 and hanged himself with a short length of twine rope. Officials believe he hid hemp scraps in his clothing while employed in the twine factory. Simms was convicted of auto theft.

A 500 watt transmitter by Hollis Baird will drive a novel scanning receiver that uses a metal band with holes on a drum, capable of 40 to 60 lines. The system enables a straight line to remain straight on reception, and a roomful can view the image, initially four inches square and expandable to eight to twelve inches. WEEI and WIXAV are coordinating synchronized voice and vision broadcasts since February 5 using short waves and standard sound wavelengths.
