Explosion Halts Capitol Light Service In South Dakota
An explosion at the South Dakota state capitol caused two engines at the state house light and power plant to be damaged. The incident disabled the elevators and ventilating system but left lighting largely unused. Fireman Carl Stentz departed seconds before the blast. cause under investigation by state heating engineer D F Radcliff. The two 24 year old engines were installed before completion of the capitol.

In Pierre, May 19, the Fred Rul Smith embezzlement case was postponed after defense filed an affidavit of prejudice disqualifying Judge John F. Hughes. Judge James McNenny of Deadwood to preside tomorrow. Hughes will sit in Belle Fourche. The information allege deposits of public funds totaling about 1.199 million dollars into the Farmers State Bank of Platte between 1924 and 1931 while insolvent, for personal and connected private business use. A $600,000 loan to the Farmers Agricultural Credit Corp. of Platte is also charged as part of a continuing scheme to divert funds to the bank and related interests.
