Hitchcock Weekly Becomes 48th Year Pioneer Paper History
In Beadle County the Hitchcock News Leader marks its forty eighth year since its 1838 spring founding by Armstrong. The paper changed hands several times before James E. Hammer acquired ownership on January 1 1923. Early owners included John and James Wisner Captain Charles S Tascott F M Webb John Longstaff M A Skinner Joy Jackson and Sol J Pruner. Charles Collier and L C Ross held terms no water during Webb’s ownership. Pruner later sold to Neil D Annis who ran it until Hammer took over. Meanwhile Blunt crops progress with 114 inch rain and cool nights aiding pastures though more moisture in May and June would help.
