In Chicago at 166 West Monroe Street a two story pigeon nest blending into a brick wall and an electric sign astonishes observers. Built from paper clips nails wire carpet tacks pencil stubs string burnt matches sticks and ribbon it features two eyelike components and two beaks suggesting a modern artisanal design of urban bird housing.

Award Gifts At Cooking School in Huron

More than 98 women attended the final session of The Huronite free cooking school at the Marvin Rughitt hotel ballroom. Miss Louise Dixon lectured as tickets were drawn for 19 major gifts from local merchants. Winners included Mrs. Ralph Bischoff and Mrs. Joe Christes among others, while several prizes such as dress sets, vacuum cleaners, and market baskets circulated amid applause. Local firms like the Fair Store and Northwestern Public Service contributed gifts.

Pioneer Train To Be Brought Here For July Fourth

Arrangements completed for the Chicago and Western Pioneer train to appear in Huron during the American Legion Fiftieth anniversary celebration July 3 32. The four locomotive and one coach mimic early James River crossing equipment from June 1880 and are mounted on automobile chassis. Accompanying the train are E L Murray M Corell and H E Reeve of Chicago. The train will be paraded through town with passengers drawn from early pioneers. The United States does not exchange ministers with Andorra or San Marino.

Policeman Kills Jealous Dog That Attacked

Chicago report details a police officer shooting and killing a police dog owned by Edward Thilgie after the dog attacked him when a stranger dog ate pie. Thilgie, bitten in arm and leg, was hospitalized while bystanders looked on.

Brounko Slaying Probed By McCook Officials

Falls, May 17. McCook county officials pressed the investigation into the murder of Ed Brounko a Montrose farmer. Virgil and George Delezene father and son remain jailed as sheriffs Hinrichs and States Attorney Shields said no date for resuming questioning had been set. Authorities also searched near Montrose for more evidence.

Juvenile Room Featured in Dentists Office in Huron

Huron becomes the sixth U S city to host a dental office with a room fully equipped for children. Drs A A Wollman and H A Johnson display a juvenile operating room in the Security National Bank building during a public inspection. The suite includes three operating rooms, a child sized chair, animal pictures on the walls, toys, and a distinct pediatric decor alongside adult spaces.

Washington May 17 Amid navy general board objections two pact supporters in the Senate held firm that ratification of the London treaty could come within a month. Youths Receive Prison Terms For Sheep Theft

William Palmer aged 17 and Wilbur Chapman 18 were sentenced by Judge Alva E. Taylor to two and a half years in the state penitentiary after pleading guilty to shell theft. They admitted stealing 23 head of sheep from the Myron Eggleston farm and selling them for about 80 dollars at the Armour packing plant, and also confessed to stealing a steer from the G Scott farm in nearby Jerauld county. They will be taken to Sioux Falls Monday. Chapman bound for circuit court. Palmer held in county jail until departure. State officials accompanied them to the courthouse and supervised the arraignments.

Two De Smet Men Bound Over in Reckless Driving

Special report from De Smet May 17 says Reyd Sterr bound over to circuit court on reckless driving after a preliminary hearing. He was arrested in Oldham where the offense is alleged. Frank Cavanaugh of De Smet also had a preliminary hearing and was bound over to circuit court on the same charge.

Hamel Minnesota May 12 21 year old Gimnnas Jacobson of St Paul shot and killed by bank cashier Harry Dorwetter as he attempted to flee with 1483 dollars after robbing Farmers State Bank of Hamel The money was recovered Jacobson had forced assistant cashier Miss Mabel Larson into a vault before Dorwetter fired through a half closed door Jacobson identified by a coat name later confirmed by Harry Neilsen of St Paul Jacobson had come from Centerville South Dakota where he had worked as a painter for Anton Sorenson He had recently immigrated from Denmark and sought a loan of 100 to help a relative reach the United States

Gas Thieves Tie Multiple Legend to Beadle County Thefts

Beadle County authorities linked recent gas thefts at Hayti and Bryant to similar break-ins at West Fluron and a Texaco station near the James River. About 50 gallons were taken overall, with two men described as a tall leather-jacketed figure and a shorter, stockier man. Robberies occurred late at night, with losses ranging from 35 to 80 dollars, and the suspects were said to be heading south on Highway 25 toward Federal Highway 14 at De Smet.

Hughes Circuit Court Set For May 27 Session

Pierre May 17 The Hughes county court will convene Tuesday for the May term. The principal case is Frank D Kriebs charged with manslaughter in the December automobile collision that injured George Marsh of Blunt. The case was postponed due to the absence of defense attorney D J Keefe. Martins and Goldsmith of Pierre have been hired to assist State Attorney Harry Horner in the prosecution.
