Miss Louise Dixon will lead a free four day cooking school at the Hughitt ballroom starting tomorrow at 2 PM. Demonstrations cover chocolate cakes, teacakes, scalloped corn, fried chicken and more with Q&A on slips of paper. Doors open at 1 PM. bring notebook and pencil for notes.
Mrs. Englemann a long time Hand County resident died at her daughter Mrs. George Chase home near Miller at age 99 after years of infirmity. Born in East Friesland Germany August 17 1823 she came to America with Onne Englemann in 1889 and settled on a farm near Miller. Survived by four sons George John Peter a Miller farmer Weert Englemann Jr a SDSU athlete and a daughter Mrs. Chase. 17 grandchildren and three earlier deceased sons.
Beadle county voters see the official canvass of results enter its final phase this afternoon with a single minor correction noted by County Auditor Everett Curtis and Clerk of Court Anna Foley. The change does not affect the contest outcome and the canvass should finish today.
C. Gorder of Deadwood was elected president of group eight of the South Dakota Bankers Association at their annual meeting in Spearfish. Guy Bailey of Whitewood became vice president, B. E. Colby of St. Onge secretary treasurer, and Walter Dickey of Spearfish outgoing president. More than 10 bankers attended, with reps from Butte, Custer, north Meade, south Meade, Pennington, Fall River, Haakon, Jackson and Lawrence counties.
On Mother's Day in Santa Rosa a plane bound for the ranch home of Mrs. Joseph Smith near Santa Rosa crashed after a low pass over the buildings. Fay Berry, 2, of Modesto, an aviation student, died at the scene. Arnold Berry, 2, died later in hospital. Robert Smith, 18, survived with cranial and spinal injuries and was not expected to recover. Mrs. Smith witnessed the tragedy.
The Interstate Commerce Commission examiner recommends cutting bituminous coal rates to South Dakota Iowa and nearby cities from the southwest. Destinations include Sioux Falls Huron Waterloo Clinton and Davenport with sizable proposed reductions. Railroads may file briefs challenging the proposal as the case proceeds.
Secretary Stimson, Americas chief naval delegate at the London conference, testifies to the Senate Foreign Relations Committee on the arms limitation treaty. Admiral Pratt and Navy Secretary Adams attend as delegates. Hearing aims to wrap within a week to ten days with swift Senate action and debate likely two weeks before a vote.
A seven pound son was born Saturday in Pierre to Mr and Mrs Gardner Gantz of Casaplaca Peru. Mrs Gantz is the daughter of Mrs W J Bulow. Mrs Gantz recently returned to South Dakota with the baby.
Omaha police seek identifications for a man killed when a brick wall collapsed yesterday. He was about 60 years old, six feet three inches tall, with gray hair. A Sioux Falls clipping found in his pocket is the only clue.
The funeral for Richard O Richards a longtime business and political figure in South Dakota will be held at the American Lutheran church at 2 pm Tuesday. He died at home after an apoplectic stroke on Saturday night at age 64 born in Sandefjord Norway in 1865 he emigrated at 15 and built a finance career in Mitchell Huron and later.
Mr Richards married Grace May Dur ell of Laconia New Hampshire in Mitchell on January 9 1991. They had six children four daughters and two sons. Surviving relatives include Blanche Campbell Dubuque Iowa Marene Longstaff Huron South Dakota Josephine Wood Niles Center Illinois Thelma Richards Minneapolis Richard C Jr and Durell B both of Huron. Immediate family arrive in Huron for the funeral.
Gold Star mothers attended a Sunday matinee at the Huron theater as special guests of the theater management. Guests included Mrs. J. M. Stiver, Mrs. Nellie Schollian, Mrs. L. K. Harvey, and Mrs. Henry G. Hein. Publix theaters nationwide offered the same Mothers Day privilege. The American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars cooperated to transport the mothers to and from the theater.
R B Taylor son of Dr and Mrs E B Taylor of Huron sailed for the United States on May 3 after a Europe sales tour for Switlik Parachute Manufacturing company He plans a brief American stay before returning to Europe for further parachute sales and demonstrations.
Moisture totals rise as rains sweep through South Dakota with 136 inches of rain yesterday and last night pushing May and yearly totals above normal. Statewide rainfall reports show Redfield 2.02 inches in 48 hours, Mitchell 1.31, Mobridge 1.14, Pierre 1.42, Aberdeen 0.90, and other amounts, while roads remain mudded and crops in good condition despite delayed fieldwork. Only two May periods in 1905 and 1914 exceeded this level by the 11th day, with monthly totals reaching 6.20 inches in 1905 and 4.87 in 1914. Subsoil remains well soaked and further rainfall appears moderate to sustain a crop. forecast calls for fair weather tomorrow and possible rain tonight.
Chicago May 12 Special The American Farm Bureau federation challenges economic enemies of the American farm. Sam E Thompson national president calls for unity against groups attacking the Agricultural Marketing Act and the Federal Farm Board. He notes the act results from seven years of farm effort and aims to promote merchandising of agricultural commodities and producer owned cooperatives as future policy. (Continued on Page 10)

New York May 12 An airplane pilot Elbert Tex Anding saved four passengers during a midair struggle above Homes airport Queens when an intoxicated man charged the cockpit. Anding restrained the man took back control after a punch knocked the attacker unconscious. The flight carried five people including two women and three men on five minute joyrides.
Washington May 12 The ransacking of senator offices deepened with a second entry into Senator Johnson of California his six file cases opened and contents scattered though nothing reported missing The raid followed the first break in on Friday and raised questions about security and possible secret service involvement as similar incidents hit Senators Snot Utah McKellar and Brock Tennessee.

Er nest Moore 55 of Hitchcock was found dead near here last night at 7 30 am a heart attack suspected given his poor health. He left home to walk to his son's two miles away. Survived by wife a daughter Leota and two sons Harold and Glenn. Funeral plans not set.
