Turkeys Best Raised In Fenced Pens, Says South Dakota Expert
Brookings May 9 The belief that turkeys should roam freely is called erroneous by Dr Weisner poultry specialist at South Dakota State College extension service Prof says profitable turkey raising uses fenced areas for layers and young birds. Confinement reduces nest theft damage from pheasants and improves egg and chick survival while limiting blackhead risk and spread of disease across farmyards. Details of the semi confinement plan appear in a forthcoming extension balloon on turkey production in the state.
