Bushfield Rides landslide to renomination in SD primary

Governor Harlan Bushfield was renominated by Republicans in South Dakota with about 78,997 votes to Crail’s 21,635 while Lewis Bicknell led Democratic rival Steensland in a tight race. Unofficial returns show Bushfield carrying Minnehaha County and Sioux Falls amid a statewide GOP edge over Democrats.

New City Board Sets Agenda After Joy Takes Office

The Huron city commission, which formally took office at a regular meeting Monday night, deflected changes to property assessment rolls with City Assessor William Joy at an adjourned session Tuesday evening. The board indicated early consideration of property levies but no immediate action. They accepted a Soil Conservation Service offer for seedlings to be planted on city park property along the James River near the C M Railroad bridge, with additional planting planned near Spink County. The next regular meeting is May 12, when appointments are expected to be discussed.

Beadle County voters will see a general election lineup next fall with candidates across offices. Roosevelt third term supporters pick up big California delegation

Roosevelt backers swept California in a Democratic primary, winning a large delegation to back a third term. Garner’s slate lost 6 to 1, with two undecided delegates remaining. Selvig Appointed To State Merit System Supervisor

Bushfield Opponent Wins Nomination In Custer Primary

In yesterday’s Custer primary Rep. Harvid Doner, a Republican insurgent, withstood a purge by state administration supporters and defeated Hobart H. Gates to win renomination. Doner received 1665 votes to Gates 490, while county totals showed 739 for Doner and 410 for Graf. Democratic nominee Lewis W. Bicknell led with 354 votes for Aimee QO Stensland.

County Commission Opens May Meeting
