Industrialized farming touted as future of agriculture by Campbell
Stated by Thomas D. Campbell of Hardin Mont a leading wheat grower the biggest industrial opportunity in the United States lies in applying factory methods to farming. He envisions a five million dollar corporation buying land nationwide to spread weather risk and employ crop rotation science and efficient machinery, potentially amassing assets and profits within 10 to 25 years. He argues large factory like farms with payroll can outperform small family farming, spurring by products and higher long term returns while cautioning about short term hurdles and policy costs.
