Marriages Rise to 6995 in South Dakota in 1931

South Dakota records show 6995 marriages in 1931, up 506 and 7.8 percent from 6489 in 1930. Divorces reached 753, up 25 or 3.4 percent from 728 in 1930, while 12 marriages were annulled in 1931, up from 6 in 1930.

Yale High declamations name district meet reps

At Yale High School declamatory contest winners were chosen for the district meet. Marie Kludt and Irma Vondracek led in oratory, Le Nora Vondracek and Alma Maass in drama, Elaine O’Brien and Earl Marsh top in humorous. Prof. Jackson of Huron judged. First-place pins awarded. Glee clubs performed. Mrs J Williams and others sang. ensembles and accompanists listed. The chorus plans a large oratorio next season under Leland Adair and Margaret Blader.

Groton chorus presents Stainer's Crucifixion at church

The Groton Community chorus of forty voices under H. A. Bergan of the high school music department performed Stainer's Crucifixion at the Presbyterian church before a full audience. Solo parts were featured amid the well received program.

Embezzlement Case Tops Aberdeen Court Date

Samuel Ludwig of Ludwig Enterprises faces a preliminary hearing in Aberdeen on embezzlement charges involving 1800 dollars tied to a promissory note used as collateral. The note pertained to funds from Kenneth Belina and relates to a theater operation in the city. Separately, deaths are reported as Tom Hynes and Ceceila Hamilton.

Whist Party Hosted by Mrs Hornig in Yale

In Yale on Tuesday evening Mrs. Phil Hornig hosted a whist card party with guests Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Kelly Mr. and Mrs. Gus Schmidt Mr. and Mrs. James Smith and Mrs. Al Gotchel. Mrs. A. Kelly won first prize and refreshments followed. Frank Crouse began seeding wheat early as the season starts.
