Cave Gives Tips On Home Gardens
Beadle county agent R A Cave says garden success hinges on soil type. Best results come from sandy loam soils, avoiding heavy clay or shallow gravelly subsoil. Near buildings, use good loam if original soil is unsuitable. windbreaks favor planting east or north of trees, keeping 50 feet away from large trees to avoid moisture loss. For heavy soils, apply well rotted manure to improve texture and porosity.
