De Smet Style Show A Hit With Record Reservations
Miss Madge Rodney staged a highly successful De Smet style review drawing strong patronage. Despite bank closures the show sold 242 reservations and served over 300 in the church auditorium. Chick Talcott’s orchestra accompanied, with soloists H L Boecker and Mrs Tom Coughlin and a group from De Smet modeling outfits.

County Treasurer Long Service Believed Record for Miner County
Edward Johnson of Howard is regarded as possibly the longest serving Miner county treasurer, with 32 years in the office since 1895, plus 18 years as deputy. He retired at 75, recalling 1894 95 farm prices and loans to farmers as wheat sold 37 cents a bushel, butter 20 cents a pound, eggs 5 to 6 cents a dozen.

W d Hughes age 17 and his wife 69 celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in Gann Valley on March 15. He ran a large general store for 38 years and remained active after selling interests. Married March 11 1683 in Remsen New York they arrived in Dakota in 1683 and homesteaded near present site of Gann Valley. He was Buffalo County treasurer for six years and helped plan the first schoolhouse later used by a Masonic lodge.

The state highway commission was advised by Attorney General Walter Conway that it must buy snow plows road material and other gear through the state director of purchasing. The commission had asked if it could buy these items independently of purchasing division.
