Open Indian Land Bar for Settlers in Dakota
A House bill sponsored by Rep. William Williamson would reopen parts of the Cheyenne River and Standing Rock reservations in North and South Dakota for homestead entry for five years beginning August 1. The aim is to allow entry by white settlers while ensuring proceeds benefit the tribes and returning unentered lands to the Indians. Senator Frazier plans to seek swift passage after the tariff bill.
