Farmers Given Changes Asked

South Dakota's 1937 legislature largely approved farm group requests. The moratorium extension gives farmers two more years to redeem mortgaged property, and a prohibition on deficit judgments when property sells below court-determined value. New soil conservation districts aim to curb erosion with terraces, cropping, reforestation and land retirement, overseen by elected supervisors and subject to two-thirds referendum approval. Additional measures fund rodent control, seed testing, and agricultural census. A homestead tax exemption relieves rural taxes, while livestock regulation shifts to a new board and brand oversight. Testing for bovine tuberculosis advances toward state accreditation. Clyde Loomis family plans to move to McGrath, Minnesota.
