Extra Courses Arranged For South Dakota Vermillion Summer

The University of South Dakota summer session plans a broad program directed by Dr William H Batson. It includes lectures drama and music for intellectually inclined students and a physical education program for men and women. Vermillion golf courts tennis and swimming facilities will be available to summer school students upon payment of a seasonal fee. The 1991 session runs June 8 to July 17 with over 190 courses in 23 departments. Enrollment is expected to match the summer 1931 peak, says Dr Batson.

Spelling Contest Chosen Representatives For Yale Inde pendent

In Yale on March 1 special spelling contest determined Yale Independent school representatives for Huron on March 18. Donald Ford had the highest average across sixth seventh and eighth grades. Mildred Gable finished second and Audrey Ford third. Mrs H HL Moon conducted the event.

Prospects for Federal Building in Hot Springs

The Hot Springs chamber of commerce discussed prospects for a federal building in Hot Springs at its regular meeting. Henry Bering and Walter J. Beck of Hot Springs Stone Co reported on quarry machinery, while W. P. Rooney and Francis Case spoke about a trip to Washington regarding plans for an addition to Battle Mountain sanitarium and a federal building for the city.

Madison Youth Hurt In Peculiar Accident

Orville Davis of Madison aged about 20 was driving near the Franklin School when a gravel piece from a passing tar spilled onto his windshield. Splinters from the glass cut his eye badly and he was brought to Madison for treatment, with possible loss of sight in one eye.

Dentla Family Sued in Circuit Court Over Beccentier Death

In a circuit court action, J P Zochert of Sioux Falls, a recluse who died in Beccentier in 1929, sues H B Dentla and his two sons J B Dennis and M G Dennis alleging a large cash error or misappropriation in a disputed estate matter.

Wall area sees rapid spring planting by farmers

In Wall and nearby farms a large number of farmers have begun spring work with extensive wheat sowing. C A Rob erty, resident about eight miles south of Wall, reports about 300 acres of wheat sown. Ground conditions are excellent and local hopes rise for larger small grain crops than previous years, though some corn remains un husked in fields.

Aberdeen police seek vandals after six basement windows and outbuildings were broken at Parkway School Sunday night. No theft reported, and authorities suspect local youths sought “whoopee.”
