Washington March 7 in a Department of Commerce release shows South Dakota ranked 26th among 48 states and districts for exports in the second quarter of 1928. The state’s three month total reached 123,865 with lard and hams leading by value, and diversified metal, chemical, and agricultural products also shipped abroad. Exports for the year’s first quarter were listed at 2051, with New York and Texas following in value nationally.

GANN VALLEY March 7 Special Charles, trainer and owner of a truck, set a long distance stock hauling record Tuesday by moving two loads of hogs from the LaDue ranch north of town to Laverne Minnesota a distance of about 175 miles. Hold Speech Contest And Basket Social At Gann Alley School

Esmond Mar 7 Special The basket social and speech contest at Gann Alley School drew 28 contestants with Bonnie Hubbard Noon Ison and Glen Reedman winning in primary intermediate and gram mar sections. Judges Winifred Handorf F E Swart out J J Drips and J D Ball. Auction of hats by Charles Lover followed. Basket sale netted 36.55 to buy a portable phonograph for the school. Gravel road from Esmond east to the Manchester Carthage road described as improving.
