AID AGENCIES FACE LOAN RATE DECISIONS ON SHARED CROP
The Agriculture Department faces two six week decisions shaping loan rates for producers who hold crops off the market. For wheat rates may range about 59 to 60 cents a bushel and for cotton about 9.7 to 12.07 cents a pound. If loan rates stay above market, domestic prices rise, boosting U S prices over world levels and inviting foreign buyers to seek supplies elsewhere. A June 15 price basis suggests loans above 70 cents for wheat could shift advantage to Canadian and Argentine growers.
