The two day celebration at W. W. Hewes Municipal Airport and Huron’s new post office will feature a model airplane contest for youths. In J. W. Campbell park on Monday morning at 10, prizes are set in two age groups with first prize of 1 dollar and an airplane ride in each.
Prize offerings include an airplane ride as a second prize and awards for scale model ship replicas and endurance flying models. No prior entry required. entries accepted when the contest opens. Judges will be selected from aviation dignitaries for the celebration.
Myron Witters, after 17 years in the Bureau of Formal Cases at the Interstate Commerce Commission, is appointed chief examiner in the Air Mail Bureau in Washington on June 20.
Herbert Anderson, field supervisor for the airport section of the Bureau of Air Commerce in Chicago, resigns to take a new role as an airline inspector for the bureau in Washington D C on June 31.
Postmaster B E H Bruemmer announced a window decoration contest to be sponsored during Airmail Week July 4 to 11. Best display wins 100 airmail stamps, second place 50. Judges will be visiting dignitaries for the dedication of W W Hawes Municipal Airport on July 4 and 5. All Huron merchants are invited to participate to boost the town’s appearance for the two day celebration.
Washington reports aircraft production in the first quarter of 1927 rose 25 percent from a year earlier. Total 571 aircraft built, with 187 delivered to the military, 71 exported, and 2 for domestic civil use. Monoplanes dominated civil output with 307 units. 195 light planes accounted for about 34 percent of civil production.
Panair do Brasil reports record passenger traffic between Horizonte and Rio de Janeiro in March. Frequent second sections were needed in addition to planned trips as almost all flights filled days in advance. Most travelers are leisure tourists from Belo Horizonte, now serving by air for the first time.
Report notes sixteen hours aboard a rail journey with a mix of travelers including several children and a two month old infant. Among the arrivals are multiple centenarians, the oldest being seventy six years old.
