German Drive On Soviet Russia Planned Months Ahead
NEW YORK June 26 Trustworthy sources told the Associated Press that Germany planned an offensive against Russia for last autumn. Reports tie the delay to British French war declarations and pressure from Mussolini’s Greece campaign, with Germany reorienting toward the Balkans and East Prussia as Russia moved into Poland and the Baltic states. Sweden and Finland arranged transit for German troops, while Finland prepared defenses and awaited a possible clash should Russia attack again.
