Morgenthau Plans Cooperative Basis For Farm Credit

Washington dispatch reports Gov. Morgenthau will reorganize federal agricultural credit in three months to create a cooperative base. The plan adds a bank for cooperatives and a production credit corporation within a new Yarn credit administration, with four divisions led by chosen presidents and commissioners.

The American Federation of Labor reports 729000 people returned to work in April and a smaller, undetermined number in May. The May survey cautions this may not signal a recovery. Unemployment fell from 13,359,000 to 12,720,000 in April, about 48 percent employed. May shows a further gain but not as large. New York June 22 Charles J Mitchell was acquitted today on all counts of income tax evasion charges. The former National City Bank chairman faced accusations of concealing 560 660.67 in 1939 and sham stock sales to hide losses in 1929 and 1930. The jury returned a not guilty verdict after deliberating more than 24 hours across three sessions. Mitchell showed visible emotion as he left the courtroom, praising counsel.
