Funds Are Asked To Help Farmers In South Dakota
In Pierre on June 14, state secretary of agriculture G S Troth urged Secretary Hyde to provide Reconstruction Finance Corporation funds to enable thousands of South Dakota farmers to buy binder twine and harvest crops. He said many producers cannot obtain loans or cash from dealers, risking reduced yields, and called for immediate action. Death of Huron Nurse Chesty Baker Reported
Word reached here of the death in Chicago last night of Chesty Baker, a 1941 graduate of the Huron clinic. She died while pursuing a post graduate course, cause diphtheria. Her mother, Mrs. Mary Baker of Raymond, learned of the illness and later her death. Baker left Raymond May 30 for the course. funeral arrangements were not yet set. The body will be shipped to Raymond for interment.

Suspenders Save Man From Kansas Tornado Blows Farm
POWHATTAN KAN June 34 strong suspenders saved Malcolm McElhone from being blown away by a tornado as Oliver Whitney dragged him to safety inside a barn. The storm wrecked more than a dozen buildings though no injuries were reported. Henry and Chris McElhone escaped unharmed. Mrs. Henry dropped potatoes as the barn lost its roof. Thousands of chickens were killed and several hogs perished.

State Threshermen In Annual Picnic
Farm machinery valued at about three quarters of a million dollars was displayed on Watertown streets as the South Dakota brotherhood of threshermen held its annual picnic and exposition. Gov. Warren E. Green was to speak at Lake Kampeska in the city park, with sports and stunts planned. Headquarters were set up by President H. F. Borneman, Sioux Falls, at the lake. A picnic dinner for 2,000 people was arranged. After Gov. Green’s address, Prof. A. L. Ford, extension entomologist, State College, Brookings, would report on the grasshopper situation.
