In Cleveland on June 11, locals discuss GOP platform humor about patience for waitresses and quick service. Merchants expect 800000 to 1000000 in gain from Republican conversion while delegates spend 100000 to 185000 on travel. Anecdotes recall political rivals Knox and Vandenberg as youths, and Alf Landon’s father quotes on urging action. A Hoover anecdote notes one shoe string untied during a speech.
